"If you do, we will collect your precise location from the time you request a ride or order until the ride is finished or your order is delivered. We also collect such data when you have the Uber app open on your phone's screen."

Uber collects precise GPS location continuously while the app is open or during any active ride/order, and retains location data for up to 7 years.

"Social media companies, including Meta and TikTok, in connection with Uber's use of their tools in Uber's apps and websites. Service providers that provide us with artificial intelligence and machine learning tools and services. Ad and marketing partners and providers, including ad and marketing publishers (such as social media platforms), ad networks and advertisers, third-party data providers, ad technology vendors, measurement and analytics providers, and other service providers."

Uber shares user data with a very broad range of third parties including Meta, TikTok, ad networks, data providers, AI service providers, and numerous other partners, many of which collect data directly through SDKs embedded in Uber's apps.

"Uber uses these vendors to reach or better understand current and potential users of Uber services or of our advertising partners, and measure and improve ad effectiveness. For example, we share audience lists with ad and marketing publishers in which users are identified by limited data points (e.g., mobile advertising ID, hashed email, name) and grouped based on inferred interests and characteristics."

Uber shares advertising IDs and hashed emails with ad partners to build audience profiles and track users across services, and receives enrichment data from data resellers including demographics, general interests, lifestyle, purchasing behavior, and streaming habits.

"Device data. This refers to data about the device(s) you use to access Uber. Advertising identifiers, Browser type, Device motion data, Device IP address or other unique device identifiers, Hardware models, Mobile network data, Operating systems and versions, Preferred languages."

Uber collects device motion data, advertising identifiers, and unique device identifiers beyond what is strictly necessary for ride-hailing, enabling device fingerprinting and cross-app tracking.

"Uber retains your data for as long as necessary for the purposes described above. For example, we retain your data: for as long as you maintain your Uber account (i.e., the life of your account) where it is necessary in order for Uber to provide its service. For 7 years from collection (unless you first delete your Uber account) if necessary for purposes of Uber's tax, insurance, legal or regulatory requirements."

Uber retains location, trip/order, communications, and usage data for up to 7 years, and may retain data even after account deletion for safety, security, fraud prevention, or unresolved claims.

"We may occasionally update this notice. If we make significant changes, we will notify you in advance of the changes through the Uber apps or through other means, such as email. Use of our services after an update constitutes consent to the updated notice to the extent permitted by law."

Uber can update its privacy notice and treats your continued use of the service as consent to the new terms, giving users no meaningful way to reject changes without stopping use entirely.

"Following an account deletion request, we delete your account and data, except as necessary for purposes of safety, security, fraud prevention or compliance with legal requirements, or because of issues relating to your account (such as an outstanding credit or an unresolved claim or dispute). We generally delete data within 90 days of an account deletion request, except where retention is necessary for the above reasons."

Account deletion takes up to 90 days and Uber retains broad categories of data after deletion for vaguely defined safety, security, and fraud prevention purposes, including for banned users whose data is kept indefinitely.
