Meta collects extensive device data including mouse movements, device identifiers, device signals, GPS location, network information, and camera roll access — much of which goes beyond core functionality and feeds into ad targeting and profiling.

Meta collects location data through multiple methods — GPS, IP address, and network information — and uses it across nearly every processing purpose listed in the policy, from ad personalization to analytics to sharing with third parties.

While Meta promises notification of material changes, continued use of the products constitutes acceptance of new terms. Users must stop using all Meta products entirely if they disagree with changes.

We also process information that we receive about you from other Meta Companies, according to their terms and policies and as permitted by applicable law. Meta shares user data broadly across the Meta family of companies (including WhatsApp) and with numerous external third parties including advertisers, analytics partners, measurement vendors, and marketing vendors.

We decide how long we need information on a case-by-case basis. In some instances and for specific reasons, we'll keep information for an extended period of time."

Meta provides no specific retention timelines, deciding on a 'case-by-case basis' how long to keep data, and reserves the right to retain information for extended periods for vaguely defined legitimate purposes.

"For some of these purposes, we use information across our Products and across your devices. When we show you ads through Meta Audience Network when you visit other apps, our systems automatically process the information that we've collected and stored about you and others to identify you as a Meta Product user and tailor the ads that you see."

Meta tracks users across all their products, across devices, and even on third-party apps and websites via Meta Audience Network, using device identifiers, cookies, and cross-app activity to build unified profiles.

"We keep information for as long as we need it to provide our products, comply with legal obligations or to protect our or other's interests. We decide how long we need information on a case-by-case basis. If we need it for other legitimate purposes, such as to prevent harm; investigate possible violations of our terms or policies; promote safety, security and integrity; or protect ourselves, including our rights, property or products."

The policy provides vague criteria for when data is actually deleted after account closure, with broad exceptions that could justify retaining data indefinitely even after a user requests deletion.
