"We may need to share personal information with our Service Providers in order to provide products or services to you. Our Service Providers are: Google LLC (Google Analytics), Amplitude Inc., AppsFlyer (campaign performance), Meta Platforms, Inc. (Meta Pixel for ads campaign), UserX Analytics (session recordings, heat maps), Microsoft Corporation (session recordings, heat maps)."

WindyApp shares user data with at least seven third-party services including advertising platforms (Meta Pixel), attribution trackers (AppsFlyer), and session recording tools (UserX, Microsoft Clarity), going well beyond what a weather app requires.

"We use UserX Analytics provided by BUMPIN L.L.C-FZ and Microsoft Clarity provided by Microsoft Corporation, which, in addition to collecting standard anonymized usage data (such as taps, swipes, and virtual device identifiers), also captures anonymized screenshots during app usage. We use AppsFlyer for campaign performance. We use Meta Pixel for ads campaign."

The combination of session recordings, screenshots, campaign attribution (AppsFlyer), and advertising pixels (Meta) enables cross-service behavioral profiling and tracking of users across platforms and campaigns.

"Personal data that may be provided by you includes, but is not limited to: location data. We may receive some information about you, such as name, email address, demographic information, IP address, location, and use of social media websites, from third parties."

WindyApp collects location data both directly from users and from third-party sources, and the policy does not clearly limit this to in-use only or explain the scope of location tracking for a weather app.

"We may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time. Use of information we collect now is subject to the Privacy Policy in effect at the time such information is used. If we make major changes in the way we collect or use information, we will notify you by posting an announcement on the App or sending you an email."

The policy can be changed at any time, and continued use constitutes acceptance. Notification is only promised for 'major' changes, leaving minor but meaningful changes unannounced.

"We retain your personal data for as long as we need it to fulfil the purposes for which we originally collected it or as needed to provide with the Services, except if required otherwise by law. In some cases we may determine the period of data retention based on the period we need to access the data for the provision of services, receiving payment, or for any other auditing or legal purposes."

There is no specific retention timeline or maximum period. The language allows indefinite retention under broad justifications like 'auditing or legal purposes.'

"We use UserX Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, which, in addition to collecting standard anonymized usage data (such as taps, swipes, and virtual device identifiers), also captures anonymized screenshots during app usage. We automatically collect data about your visit to the App, your usage of the Services and your app and website browsing activities."

Capturing screenshots of app sessions and collecting browsing activities, hardware/software specifications, and virtual device identifiers goes beyond what core weather functionality requires.

"If you request us to view, change and remove your data associated with your account, please contact us at windy@windyapp.co. We will process your request within 15 business days. In accordance with the applicable laws, additional fees may be applied."

There is no self-service account or data deletion option. Users must email support and wait up to 15 business days, and the policy even mentions potential additional fees.
