"Using the service involves the collection of data from and about the device(s) you use to access our service, including hardware and software information such as IP address, device ID, device type, operating systems and configurations, network information, as well as app settings and characteristics, app crashes, advertising IDs and identifiers associated with cookies or other technologies that can uniquely identify a device or browser."

Hinge collects a wide range of device-level data including advertising IDs, device IDs, network information, and browser-unique identifiers that go well beyond what a dating app needs for core functionality.

"If you give us permission, we collect your geolocation (latitude and longitude) from your device. If you decline permission, features that rely on precise geolocation will not be available to you."

Hinge collects precise GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude), and the data sharing tables show geolocation data is shared with service providers/partners and Match Group affiliates.

"This policy will change over time. We're always looking for new and innovative ways to help you build meaningful connections and strive to make sure explanations of our data practices remain up-to-date. We will notify you before material changes take effect so that you have time to review the changes."

While Hinge promises advance notice of material changes, there is no mechanism for consent — continued use after notification constitutes acceptance of new terms.

"We share data with vendors and partners who help us operate, promote and improve our service. They provide us services such as data hosting and maintenance, analytics, customer care, marketing, advertising, payment processing, legal support, and security operations. Hinge shares virtually every category of user data with an open-ended list of service providers and partners, and additionally allows advertising partners to collect data directly via SDKs embedded in the app.

"Following account closure, we delete your data as laid out below: To protect the safety and security of our members, we implement a safety retention window of three months following account closure or up to two years following an account ban. We maintain limited data to comply with legal data retention obligations: in particular, we keep transaction data for 10 years to comply with tax and accounting legal requirements, credit card information for the duration the user may challenge the transaction, and "traffic data" / logs for one year."

Hinge retains various categories of data for up to 10 years after account closure, including a 3-month to 2-year safety window, 5-year retention of customer care records, and 10-year retention of transaction data.

"We share data about you with our Affiliates and they share data about you with us, for the reasons laid out below: To make all Match Group platforms safer... To assist each other, as service providers, in data processing operations, such as data hosting and maintenance, customer care, marketing and targeted advertising, analytics, machine learning development and implementation... to better understand how people use Match Group services overall, to personalize your experience across Match Group services and to enhance marketing and advertising campaigns."

Hinge shares user data across all Match Group properties (Tinder, Match.com, OkCupid, etc.) to build cross-platform profiles, personalize experiences, and target advertising across their family of dating services.

"Note that we will close your account automatically if you are inactive for two years. Following account closure, we delete your data as laid out below: To protect the safety and security of our members, we implement a safety retention window of three months following account closure or up to two years following an account ban. During this period, we keep your data to investigate unlawful or harmful conducts."

After account deletion, Hinge retains data for months to years across multiple retention categories, with some data kept for up to 10 years. The layered retention schedule means full deletion takes a very long time.
